Welcome to the 20th Annual Rio Tinto AlcanDRAGON BOAT FESTIVALFestival weekend labeled as "perfect"; Vancouver, BC - Organizers of the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival credit ideal weather, exuberant participants and top-notch entertainment for creating the hugely successful 20 th anniversary event this year. "This Festival has a lot of moving parts," says General Manager Ann Phelps. "Thanks to the racers, the volunteers, the staff, our sponsors and our guests it all went extremely well. We're calling it a near perfect weekend." Already one of Vancouver's largest events, this year the Festival set an attendance record with an estimated 120,000 people on the site over two days. Vancouver teams took two of the weekend's top prizes. The False Creek Racing Canoe Club A won the Competitive A Championship in 1.55.150. Masters of D'Zone, another Vancouver crew, took Competitive B in 2.07.950. New this year, The Gift of Life Cup was a dragon boat race that brought together teams of people living with a physical or mental health challenge. A paddler in that race said it was "just incredible for all of us." Next year's Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival is June 20th and 21st , 2009. |
