Where is the practice area located?
The Dragon Zone Practice Club is located on the water in the most Southeast corner of False Creek, approximately 100 meters south of Science World. You will see a green portable trailer on the grass, and lots of dragon boats and docks on the water. The office is located in the brand new Creekside Community Centre.
The closest Skytrain station is the Main Street/Science World Station, which is across the street (Quebec) on the corner of Terminal and Quebec.
There is plenty of parking in the neighbourhood though we encourage you to come by foot, bike, rollerblade or public transit.

Is there parking available?
There is plenty of parking in the neighbourhood. Science World operates a large parking lot with pay meters that take credit cards. There is also a Easypark parking lot across the street on Quebec. Though there is plenty of parking, we encourage you to come by foot, bike, rollerblade or public transit.
Is there a place to leave my stuff? Is it secure?
There is a change room in the trailer, with lockers. If you wish to lock up valuables, please bring your own lock.
Do I need experience?
There is no experience necessary. Dragon boating is a truly inclusive sport for all ages, health, and mental and physical abilities.
Do you have any teams that are competitive?
There are teams of all abilities, including novice, intermediate, competitive and elite.
What is the cost?
Costs vary for each program. Prices range from $10 per drop-in class ($5 for children during the Sunday Drop-Ins) to $200 for an individual who wishes to join an “All Inclusive” Club Team (includes all practices, race fees, team jersey, coaching and use of all equipment),
How long is the program?
Most programs run 12 weeks, but we have programs as short as 4 weeks and as long as 6 months.
Do I have to be fit?
There are people of all fitness abilities taking part in dragon boat paddling. You’ll become much fitter as your practices continue, especially in upper body strength.
Is there any age limit?
To race a person must be 13 or older. There are Junior Teams (High School), Adult mixed teams, Women’s Teams, and Senior Teams. We are developing a program for Middle Schools to commence next year (March 2011).
Is the equipment available?
All equipment is provided
Do I have to attend every practice?
No, you don’t have to attend every practice, but if you commit to a team that plans to race, you should attempt to come to as many practices as possible. It’s all about team work.
I can’t attend the regatta, is that OK?
Yes. No races or regattas are required, but you must inform your team manager.
Where is the waiver located?
On the website, under the Race section, “Downloads” button.
Who is my coach?
Each team has a trained coach assigned to them. As well, guest coaches may come for specific skill development.
What should I do when I arrive?
Please come to the Dragon Zone trailer and ask for the Dragon Zone staff.
How long are the practices?
Practices are 90 minutes long.
Will I get wet?
Yes. You will get wet. Bring a change of sweatshirt or sweater for after your practice.
What footwear should I wear?
Paddlers wear runners, Teva type sandals, or neoprene slipper type boating shoes generally. Wear something that you don’t mind getting wet.
Can I practice with another team?
Yes, as long as the team is available and there is an empty space.
Can my friend join?
Yes. Please have them call the office or email to info@dragonboatbc.ca.
Are life jackets required?
The PFD’s (personal floatation device) is supplied. All paddler’s who practice at the Dragon Zone or race in any of the CIDBFS races or regattas MUST WEAR A PFD at all times while on a dragon boat.
