Urban Impact

At Urban Impact, we believe we have a vital opportunity at festivals and events to send attendees and all participants away with valuable lessons regarding how to live lighter on the planet while at home, at work and at play.

We are very proud to be working in partnership the Dragon Boat Festival to implement a comprehensive recycling and waste reduction program throughout the venue. We believe that changing the way we deal with waste is a necessity.  Every tonne of paper diverted from landfills through recycling and shredding reduces your carbon footprint by 3 megatonnes.

Urban Impact has created Zero Waste Stations for events and festivals as our way of designing sustainable waste management solutions and giving back to our communities.  We are excited to help the Dragon Boat Festival make as little trash as possible. We have set up systems for composting and recycling, we do the hauling and we sort every bag to get to diversion rates of up to 80%.

During the Festival, please recycle Paper and Cardboard, Mixed Containers and Compost by placing your recyclables in one of our twelve Zero Waste Stations throughout the venue.  There will be two volunteers at each Zero Waste Station to help answer any questions you may have and help you select the right place to put your recyclables.

Drop by Urban Impact’s Recycling Centre and tent to find out how our recycling experts are helping the Dragon Boat Festival recycle and minimize waste!  You will see Urban Impact’s hybrid truck- the first recycling collection and compaction truck to have an electrically operated hydraulic pump.  The truck makes no noise as it dumps and compacts paper.   Kids will have the opportunity to see the truck in action and color their very own truck.

Don’t forget to visit the Zero Waste Stations.  After the festival is over, Urban Impact will be providing the event organizers with a Certificate of Diversion that outlines how much waste was diverted from the landfill over the weekend’s festivities.

Urban Impact salutes the Dragon Boat Festival organizers for stepping up their efforts to make the Festival green!  We hope to have the opportunity to speak with you about recycling during the Festival.
