WELCOME TO DRAGON BOATING IN VANCOUVER AND BEYOND AND THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL FESTIVAL!

Volunteers: Register for the LAST GASP Regatta, Saturday, August 28th at False Creek today! Click Here >>

The 2010 Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival has now wrapped up and we had a wonderful time. Thank you to everyone for your interest and enthusiasm.  The races, the entertainment, the food and exhibits all contributed to a feeling of fun and celebration that lasted all weekend long.

If you were with us – thank you for coming. If not, we hope to welcome you next year!

If you’re a racer, we hope to see you a the Steveston Dragon Boat Festival this August 21 and 22. You can pick up more information on this brand new event by going to our special events page on this website, or by calling 604 688 2382.

As we slow down a little bit — only 2 more regattas on our plate —  we’d like to take a bit of time to help our friends at Science World.

Science World is currently seeking feedback on a proposal to expand its activities with the creation of an outdoor science gallery and exhibition space. SWITCH: The Outdoor Science Experience, as the space will be known, will provide interactive science exhibits for our visitors and add public amenities to the surrounding Creekside Park.

Feedback is needed in order for Science World to obtain permission from the City to proceed with this exciting project! Please lend your voice by visiting www.scienceworld.ca/switch to learn more and to fill out the feedback form.

Now, back to business!

Welcome to the website of the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society,  a non-profit society formed in 1989. The society produces the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival each June, and operates a number of other dragon boat and paddling events throughout the year such as paddling and educational programs for children, youth, adults, community organizations, charities and corporations.

Our Festival was created to showcase Vancouver’s cultural diversity and to promote racial harmony among Canadians. At the heart of our Festival is dragon boating – the fastest-growing team sport in North America and a sport that’s fun to do and fun to watch. Visitors to our Festival will see dragon boat races, experience spectacular food, entertainment, and arts and children’s programming that reflect Vancouver’s cultural diversity.

Dragon Boating is a truly inclusive sport that promotes friendship, cultural understanding, wellness and sustainability. Almost anyone can take part and dragon boating is often the beginning of a life-long commitment to paddling sports.

Twenty-two years after dragon boating first appeared on the waters of False Creek the Society fulfills its mandate of promoting cultural diversity while expanding opportunities for the community to take part in dragon boating and other paddling sports from our False Creek, Richmond and Surrey locations.

We hope to see you on the water one day soon!
