Dragon Boat BC Grant Programs

Through our work since 1989, we’ve been privileged to see dragon boat grow as a positive force in our community. As we continue to work in partnership with a wide range of groups to build our community up, we’re pleased to support dragon boat’s growth through a range of in-kind and financial support programs.

Oddball Community Grant

  • 2024 Cycle Grant Deadline: December 31. 2025 Cycle expected to open for applications Fall 2024.
  • 2024 Focus Area: Junior and Para teams in BC

Oddball Workshop is helping to build up the dragon boat community by investing directly into the success of dragon boat teams that support our community.

For 2024, Oddball Workshop is funding race fees for Junior and Para teams entering into Dragon Boat BC races. Complete applications are due no later than December 31 at 11:59 PM PDT. Junior teams must have an adult responsible for the team complete this application.

Retroactive funding may be applied for races within the 2024 season that have already been registered into. Eligible events for funding support include:

Eligibility and evaluation criteria also includes:

  • Applicant teams must be based within British Columbia only, and must be a junior or Para team.
  • Teams must currently use Oddball Workshop as uniform supplier.
  • Teams must NOT be a commercial venture.
  • Unmet financial need is not a requirement, but weighting and preference will be given to applicants that have demonstrated financial need.
  • Teams must demonstrate a track record of good operational and ethical practice, be involved with the community, and conduct their operations to a high standard within the community.
  • Teams may only apply for funding up to the full value of their Dragon Boat BC race registration fees only.

Please note that while there is no funding limit for this grant, we do not expect to award grants over $2,500 per boat, or over 50% of a team’s overall budget. If a team has multiple boats, this may be taken into account when determining awards.

Grants will be applied to already-created registrations in the registration database, or new registrations will be created for teams according to their indicated ask/request.

This is a competitive grant process, and we expect to receive more requests than there are funds available. Note that you may not receive your full ask, depending on factors including but not limited to: grant requests exceeding available funds, Independent Assessment Committee evaluations and adjudication, adherence with eligibility, and other factors typically reviewed as part of a standard grant application process.

All applications are reviewed for eligibility and quality by staff and an Independent Assessment Committee operating arms length from Dragon Boat BC, who provides their recommendations to the Board for review and approval.

Please consult online resources for assistance with general grant preparation, and contact us if you require assistance with your application preparation. Note that we cannot provide specific feedback, as not to provide preferential treatment for any one applicant.

Grant notifications were announced early February. All decisions made are final.
