Vessi 500 Championship and Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival Postponement

VANCOUVER, BC – March 30, 2020 – 10:00 PM – The Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society announces that the Vessi 500 Championship is rescheduled to dates in 2020 to be determined, and the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival is tentatively rescheduled to September 12-13, 2020.

We are continuing to work with the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation to determine appropriate future dates for the Vessi 500 Championship, expected to be in mid-August. Please read below for details on race transfer and refund policies.

Race Transfer and Refund Policy

Race registrations will be transferred to the new dates at no charge. Transfers to 2021 will be granted minus a 25% administration fee due to the unrecoverable high costs already incurred to plan and organize the event. Approximately 40% of costs have already been incurred at this time, excluding fixed and recurring costs that are incurred regardless of whether events run.

Preventing the Spread of COVID-19

We encourage everyone to find updates on best practices on how to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 online through the Public Health Agency of Canada, BC Ministry of Health, and Vancouver Coastal Health. You can also access public health information through the Province’s health line at 1-888-COVID19 (1-888-268-4319). During this time, please follow measures required by BC’s Ministry of Health, like staying at home except for essential tasks like buying groceries, washing hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, and physically isolating if you have recently returned to Canada.

We continue to actively monitor the situation, and provide updates on dragonboatbc.ca/media, dragonzone.ca/alerts, concorddragonboatfestival.ca/alerts, and stevestondragonboatfestival.ca/alerts.

As a non-profit organization, we are deeply grateful and thankful for any support financial or otherwise from the community. If you would like to support Dragon Boat BC, please email info@dragonboatbc.ca.

Rest assured that we are working to ensure that we can run safe, exciting, and successful events this year. During these difficult times, we are actively working to ensure we can continue to support the paddling community, follow best practices in the interests of the public, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as this situation is resolved.
