VANCOUVER, B.C. (June 20, 2022) — With Vancouver’s iconic Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival fully back for the first time since 2019, Dragon Boat BC is excited to invite the community to kick off summer with races on False Creek, plus an exclusively local lineup of live shows and activities at Concord Pacific Place and Creekside Park from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, and Sunday, June 26.
As the continent’s flagship dragon boat festival, the free public event includes international dragon boat races, headliner music shows, cultural pavilions and exhibitions, local marketplace and food vendors, a new public art program, and family-friendly activities. More than 122 races, along with shows, demonstrations, and activities, will be held throughout the two days. Racer-only events will be held on Friday, June 24.
Unveiled on June 9 at the Concord Pacific Presentation Centre, a new fleet of 18 next-generation boats — funded by Concord Pacific and the Province of B.C. — will make its racing debut at the 2022 Festival. Nine local artists were commissioned to create artwork for the boats to celebrate this once-in-a-generation occasion.
During the weekend festivities, the community will watch 135 teams compete for medals during championship grand finals. As well, visitors can enjoy local artists on the 102.7 THE PEAK Main Stage — with headliners The Zolas, among many performances — and explore pavilions featuring Chinese and Indigenous artisans, community groups, and businesses.
The Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival is an intercultural community meeting place at the intersection of culture and sport. Festival program details and updates are available at www.concorddragonboatfestival.ca, or follow on Facebook at Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival, Instagram at @dragonboatbc and Twitter at @dragonboatbc.
Note for photos and videos: Visuals include dragon boat races on the water — most ideal location around Science World. Artists on the main stage, and community pavilions will be situated at Concord Pacific Place.
