ARCHIVED NEWS RELEASE
March 16, 2020
With the best interests of our staff and paddlers in mind and out of an abundance of caution, Dragon Zone is temporarily suspending access to the docks, sheds and boats effective Monday March 16. The scheduled reopening date will be Tuesday March 31.
Team orientations, programs, and coach boat orientations are also suspended until the club reopens.
As the situation develops and evolves, we will notify teams and paddlers of any updates or changes to the reopening date through our regular communication channels including dragonzone.ca/alerts.
At this point, we are not aware of any staff or paddlers who have been diagnosed with the virus.
Preventing the Spread of COVID-19
We encourage everyone to find updates on best practices on how to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 online through the Public Health Agency of Canada, BC Ministry of Health, and Vancouver Coastal Health. You can access public health information as well through the Province’s health line at 811.
During this time, we advise everyone to follow the measures recommended by BC’s Ministry of Health, including regularly washing hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, not touching your face, coughing into your elbow, not sharing water bottles, disposing of used tissues into closed garbage cans, and practicing social distancing. If you or other team members are feeling unwell or have returned from travels outside of Canada (including to the United States), we advise that public health officials have asked you to self-isolate for 2 weeks.
During this time, our thoughts are with all individuals and communities that have been affected by COVID-19. Our deepest gratitude goes out to all first responders, medical staff and crews, and public health officials who are working hard to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the public.
We will continue to actively monitor the effects of COVID-19 on public health and safety, and provide updates on our events and operations via dragonzone.ca/alerts.
During these unprecedented times, it is critical we all work together as a community to navigate this situation, and the recovery afterwards. As a non-profit organization, we are deeply grateful and thankful for the support from the paddling community, and we apologize for the temporary inconvenience. We look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as this situation is resolved.
