VANCOUVER, BC (June 20, 2024, 2:45 PM) — Dragon Boat BC, in consultation with Metro Vancouver, the City of Vancouver, and Vancouver Coastal Health have determined that today’s pipe break in Olympic Village will not impact this weekend’s Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival in any significant way. The Festival will have hand-wash stations and mobile showers to help put racer minds at ease and to ensure this weekend’s events are enjoyable for all participants. All racers are encouraged to use these stations, and to wash their hands after racing with soap and water. Vancouver Coastal Health’s Environmental Health Officer has been on-site to assess potential health impacts of the pipe break, and follow-up sampling and tests will continue to be performed on the water at various sites around False Creek by Metro Vancouver. False Creek is designated as a secondary contact zone, meaning boating activities can proceed. As the health and safety of all visitors is the Festival’s highest priority, Dragon Boat BC will continue to work closely with Metro Vancouver, the City of Vancouver, and Vancouver Coastal Health to monitor the situation. We look forward to celebrating the first weekend of summer with the biggest ever Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival at False Creek.
