Dragon Boat BC Grant Programs

Through our work since 1989, we’ve been privileged to see dragon boat grow as a positive force in our community. As we continue to work in partnership with a wide range of groups to build our community up, we’re pleased to support dragon boat’s growth through a range of in-kind and financial support programs.

Oddball Community Grant

Oddball Workshop is helping to build up the dragon boat community by investing directly into the success of dragon boat teams that support our community.

For the 2025 season 2025, Oddball Workshop is funding race fees for Junior and Para teams entering into Dragon Boat BC races. Complete applications are due no later than December 31 at 11:59 PM PDT. Junior teams must have an adult responsible for the team complete this application.

Retroactive funding may be applied for races within the 2025 season that have already been registered for. Eligible events for funding support include:

Eligibility and evaluation criteria also includes:

  • Applicant teams must be based within British Columbia only, and must be a junior or Para team.
  • Teams must use Oddball Workshop as uniform supplier for the 2025 season.
  • Teams must NOT be a commercial venture.
  • Unmet financial need is not a requirement, but weighting and preference will be given to applicants that have demonstrated financial need.
  • Teams must demonstrate a track record of 1) good operational and ethical practice, 2) involvement in the community, and 3) conducting their operations to a high standard within the community.
  • Teams may only apply for funding up to the LOWEST of: a) $2,500, b) 50% of overall budget, or c) maximum sum total of eligible race entry fees.

Please note the following points and common errors when applying:

  • Grants may be used only to offset costs associated with the events listed above.
  • If a team has multiple boats, please create separate applications per boat.
  • Teams not having completed previous Oddball Community Grant reporting requirements or met the funding goals of the Grant are ineligible to apply for the Grant without first speaking to a grant administrator.
  • Incorrectly completed, or incomplete fields may result in delays in adjudication or disqualification from the Grant review process.

For the 2025 cycle, please ensure you complete the grant budget template in the application, and email it by the grant closing date to info@dragonboatbc.ca. Applications without a complete budget will be disqualified.

Grants will be applied to already-created registrations in the registration database, or new registrations will be created for teams according to their indicated ask/request.

This is a competitive grant process, and we expect to receive more requests than there are funds available. Note that you may not receive your full ask, depending on factors including but not limited to: grant requests exceeding available funds, Independent Assessment Committee evaluations and adjudication, adherence with eligibility, and other factors typically reviewed as part of a standard grant application process.

All applications are reviewed for eligibility and quality by staff and an Independent Assessment Committee operating arms length from Dragon Boat BC, who provides their recommendations to the Board for review and approval.

Please consult online resources for assistance with general grant preparation, and contact us if you require assistance with your application preparation. Note that we cannot provide specific feedback, as not to provide preferential treatment for any one applicant.

Please click here to apply for the grant. Grant decisions will be communicated to successful applicants by mid-March 2025. All decisions made are final.
