False Creek Seawall Expo Deck Closure

VANCOUVER, BC (February 5, 2025) — The City of Vancouver has closed the seawall deck between Science World to Creekside Community Centre following engineering inspections.

This will impact paddlers at our Olympic Village facility; please visit the City’s website for more information and for maps of the new pedestrian routes that run South on Quebec, then West at Switchmen, and through East Park before arriving at Creekside Community Centre.

A new restricted paddling zone will be implemented running from the end of our docks to the seawall when the docks reopen after this week’s freezing temperatures pass, to allow the City to conduct further work and inspections.

Dragon Boat BC is engaged with the City to understand the scope of this closure, and if adjustments to our 2025 season plans are needed. We’re also proactively speeding up plans that were already in development that anticipated major construction for the seawall decks and East Park in the near future, to mitigate any potential challenges from this situation.

Dragon Boat BC will be issuing further statements over the coming weeks as we get more information on the condition of the seawall.
