ARCHIVED NEWS RELEASE
March 24, 2020
VANCOUVER, BC – March 24, 2020 – 2:00 PM – In light of continuing developments around COVID-19, the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society is making the following announcement:
The Oddball 2,000 Challenge and Dragon Zone Youth Regatta are rescheduled to dates in 2020 to be determined. We are continuing to work with the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation to determine appropriate future dates for these two events. Please read below for details on race transfer and refund policies.
Race Transfer and Refund Policy
Race registrations will be transferred to the new dates once finalized or to 2021 dates at no charge. If you prefer to receive a refund, it will be subject to our standard terms due to the significant costs already incurred to plan and organize the events. Refunds will take up to 90 days to process depending on when the registration was done, payment methods, and processing times from our payment processors.
Preventing the Spread of COVID-19
We encourage everyone to find updates on best practices on how to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 online through the Public Health Agency of Canada, BC Ministry of Health, and Vancouver Coastal Health. You can also access public health information through the Province’s health line at 811.
During this time, it is advised to follow measures recommended by BC’s Ministry of Health, like staying at home except for essential tasks like buying groceries, washing hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, and physically isolating if you have recently returned to Canada.
We continue to actively monitor the effects of COVID-19 on public health and safety, and provide updates on our operations via dragonboatbc.ca/media, dragonzone.ca/alerts, concorddragonboatfestival.ca/alerts, and stevestondragonboatfestival.ca/alerts.
We are working with government agencies and key stakeholders to confirm next steps for the Vessi 500 Championship and Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival. We expect to be able to issue guidance on these events later this week. As soon as we have full or partial information to share, we will do so to all registered teams. We are taking this approach to allow teams to make proper plans for each event and to avoid any confusion.
Rest assured that we are working to ensure that we can run safe, exciting, and successful events this year. During these difficult times, we are actively working to ensure we can continue to support the paddling community, follow best practices in the interests of the public, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as this situation is resolved.
